George asks…

what does it mean when your eye twitches?

the bottom lid of my left eye constantly twitches. what does it mean, and how do i make it stop ?

Tim answers:

Wen that happens it usually means ur under stress or if ur eye is hurting as well it means theres something actually in ur eye, but mainly whether u kno it or not its because of stress. It will probably stop wen u stop getting so stressed out. It helps to put a warm cloth over your eye and relax

Donna asks…

What do it mean when your left eye twitches?

my left eye was twitching last week now today my right eye is twitching

Tim answers:

Your eyes could be strained. Have you been doing a lot of reading lately? Perhaps watching tv for a long time? Some sleep should help!

Hope this helps!

Lizzie asks…

What does it mean when your left eye keeps twitching?

For the last 4 days my left eye has been twitching on off…. I heard this is a sign of stress. Could anything else possibly be causing this?

Tim answers:

Stress, tiredness and thinking about it can all cause it.

I go through phases of it, not had it for ages now and can guarantee it’ll start within the hour now I’ve seen this!

Joseph asks…

What does it mean when your eye twitches?

Lately my left eye has been twitching. I’ll be sitting there and my eyelid will suddenly start twitching. Is this associated with stress or a neurological symptom or the eye muscle or what?

Tim answers:

It appears most eye twiches are harmless, involuntary spasms of the tiny muscles surrounding the eye. Some causes are fatigue, squinting a lot, consuming too much caffeine, or working in a less than ideal visual environment, e.g., staring at a computer screens for long periods of time. Just like a muscle spasm at any other part of the body, an eye twitch can mean you’ve taxed your muscles and need to relax them
TO THE PREVIOUS POSTER- anyone with normally functioning eyes will blink if you tap anywhere near the eye. Eye twitching is not indicative of low potassium! I regurlarly nurse patients with low poatassium and none have ever had eye twitches at the same time. You gets CRAMPS with low Kcl which is why you have bananas :)

Mandy asks…

What Does It Really Mean When Your Eye Twitches or Jumps?

Reason why I ask this is because my eyes have been twitching all day, especially my left one!!! The Old Wives Tales say that if your left eye jumps then something bad will happen, and if your right eye jumps something good will happen. I don’t think that’s necessarily true, but do you think it‘s because of a stress factor? Let me know your opinions…Thanx!!

Tim answers:

Occasionally, your eyelid may twitch at random. This involuntary twitching of your eyelid muscle typically lasts less than a minute. But it can be annoying.

The cause of eye twitch isn‘t known. But it may be associated with fatigue, stress or caffeine. You may be able to relieve eye twitch by gently massaging the affected eyelid. To do this, move your index finger back and forth from the inner to the outer part of the lid for approximately one minute. Use the same amount of pressure that you use on a computer keyboard. Massage may be more effective if you first use a warm, wet compress on the eyelid for 10 minutes.

An eye twitch is usually harmless. Rarely, a twitching eyelid can be a symptom of a muscle or nerve disorder such as Blepharospasms. But in such cases, eyelid twitching is usually accompanied by other symptoms.

So , in your case, you mght have consumed too much tea or coffee. Or after close work such as the computer or reading which causes eyestrain, you wash your eyes. Another common cause is lack of sleep or stress.
